IOA Championship & IOA Golf Classic Roundup

Each year, Insurance Office of America (IOA) plays an integral part as a supporter and sponsor of events on the Symetra Tour — Road to the LPGA. Despite the challenges involved in safely organizing and executing the 2020 competitive season, IOA has helped aspiring LPGA athletes to continue playing across the nation. From the Golden State to the Sunshine State, catch up on how players fared at the two most recent IOA-sponsored events on the tour: the IOA Championship and IOA Golf Classic.

IOA Championship Results

From August 21–23, the IOA Championship Presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa brought out the best from its players in Beaumont, California. Heading into the final round on Sunday, August 23, Fatima Fernandez Cano held a one-shot lead, which she took all the way to victory. Dominating the leaderboard with a total score of 204, Fernandez Cano truly championed the annual tournament. This was Fernandez Cano’s first Symetra Tour win, awarding her an $18,750 prize.

IOA Golf Classic Results

At the Alaqua Country Club in Longwood, Florida, the IOA Classic Presented by Homevalue.com immediately turned into a tournament to remember. Samantha Wagner took a clear lead in the first round but was ultimately bested by the end of day two. A close playoff between Laura Wearn and Haylee Harford in the final round drove this year’s competition into a full-on showdown. Parring the 18th hole for victory, Wearn snagged the winner’s prize of $22,500 and took home her third career title.

What’s Next for IOA?

Players have officially moved on from the IOA Championship and IOA Golf Classic. However, these tournaments won’t be the last IOA-affiliated ones on the tour this year. From October 15–17, players will compete in the Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship Presented by IOA. According to IOA Co-founder John Ritenour, this recent addition to the tour is perhaps one of the most important this season.

“So much has been taken away from players on the Symetra Tour this year,” said Ritenour. “For the team at IOA, being able to give them something to celebrate is something for us to celebrate. That’s why we are so excited to lend our support and present the Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship.”
